My Poker Table

Check out the new table here!

Here is another one made for a local sports bar, SAGA;

Latest table (Jan. 07, 2008) with some construction pics.

I built one and enjoyed doing it. Have a gander!

Simple and Cheap. Those were the two things that I was looking for. Simple due to time requirements and cheap because I didn’t want to spend a bunch! A new store bought octagonal poker table made of wood will run about €500-€800 ($650-$1050).

I spent quite some time looking over the designs at http://www.homepokertourney.com/ and I owe the site and its’ submitters many thanks, otherwise this project would never have begun. Poker is a rising ‘sport’ in Germany and they take their play time just as seriously as their work time.

There were 3 choices to be made initially;

  1. A casino style long oval shape.
  2. A round table.
  3. Octagonal.

Then there was another choice;

  1. With a race track or,
  2. Without a race track.

And finally;

  1. With a rail/cushion or,
  2. Without a rail/cushion.

I went with an octagonal, with race track and without rail/cushion table. Why? Octagonal because it has no curves and curves make things more difficult. It is much easier to saw straight lines then to saw curved lines and make them look good. I chose a race track because it added no extra work outside a varnish and most games we play require some sort of storage area for game pieces. I would have had the rail but the wife wants to have a general gaming table, too. The other reason was ‘Simple’, and the cushion adds an element of difficulty that requires more time than I have and perhaps more skill, too.
